We ground our design work in the deep history contained in every site. Through traditional and experimental design techniques we guide clients in visualizing a landscape programmed by desire. While Fruit is capable of designing at every scale, we are focused on the functional, ornamental, and re-imagined perennial garden fitted to a native palette.

We love distinct areas of lawn for play and picnics, but generally we see too much of this monoculture in our environment. We propose to reduce the amount of lawn to focused areas of green canvas, devoting more area to the seasonal display of flowers, and celebration of native pollinators. The knock-down effects of converting lawns to meadows are worth noting: reduced reliance on fertilizers and irrigation, habitat for beneficial insects and birds, and a dynamic contrast to the salient feature of American landscapes.

Drawing from our interest in the rich history of stone work in gardens world wide, we craft hand-hewn or CNC-milled stone features with our trusted regional fabricators. We have experience designing and producing custom hardscape to highlight unique formal or pivotal moments in the garden, including lanterns, planters, wall and pool coping, fountains and scuppers. 

The interplay between works of art and plants is a timeless relationship we can only hope to further in our practice. With a keen eye for form, artistry and materials, we offer the sourcing and siting of vintage or commissioned works of art in our gardens.
